Matchup/Scouting Report

Blue

Kang, Peter: Excellent shooter off screens and picks and can create his own shot. Streaky sometimes. Good passer. Kang plays above average defense on taller players. Blue’s scoring depends heavily on Kang hitting his shots. Will score at will against Gray, but may have a hard time against Red’s Healey.

Sheehan, Mike: Excellent rebounder, good scorer in the paint. Uncomfortable on perimeter in offensive and defensive situations. Sheehan is developing more low post moves and is solid all around for Blue. Abuses many teams’ big men down low, but cannot guard the faster perimeter players.

Chen, Ken: Poor shooter, good rebounder for size. Excellent hustle and adequate perimeter defense. An adequate and conservative passer, Chen will not provide scoring but will get to loose balls and rebounds, as well as chase around quick opposing guards.

Soang, Reggie: Soang has tremendous upside but has had a disappointing season. Average shooter and rebounder. Can take his man left and go up strong. Has potential to be great scorer and defender if focused. Occasional on court disputes with team leader Kang has made Soang drop to the third scoring option on the team. Looks to make an impact in the playoffs and improve his poor season numbers.

 

Overall: Blue matches up much better with Gray. Kang has an easier time against Ni, especially if Ni’s back is still bad. Blue has huge advantage unless Dutta or Chang can have a big game and score points against Sheehan or Chen. Against Red, Blue must capitalize on the mismatches of Sheehan or Soang against Bisker and Chandran, as well as double Healey and make Red’s other players beat them. For Red to win, players other than Healey, particularly Chou, must step up and shoot well. Both Red and Gray must play excellent defense on Blue’s pick and roll offense, especially on Kang.

Line: Blue over Gray, 3-1. Blue over Red, 3-2.
