Movie Soundtracks on the Rise
Turn on the television and watch the latest movie commercial. In the background you hear a
hot new song from a popular band. There's nothing new about this, but current statistics show that movie soundtracks boost movie sales by a considerable amount. Remember Armageddon? The movie was #1 in the box office for 4 weeks but the soundtrack was at the top of BillBoard for a month and a half. This is quite amazing, considering
that the movie wasn't all that good, but the music became almost the movie's
identity. Another example is the movie Titanic. The largest grossing movie of all time also had the best selling movie soundtrack ever.
Movie soundtracks have been around for years. But the sudden interest by large movie producing companies has spurred a new revelation: movies and music go together like bread and butter. Movies are an easy way for music lovers to enjoy the silver screen and music a good way for movie lovers to relive those moments of the movie they love so much.
Even popular songs are winding up on sitcoms, dramas, and other TV shows. Dawson's Creek for example, uses many songs by popular alternative bands. Added up, music makes everything all the much better and easier for someone to enjoy what the screen is trying to present. If we see and hear what the directors, actors, and actresses are trying to say and do, then they've done their job. It's so much easier with the help of a good song blasting behind you.
