Cover Story Monday Through Friday: Primetime Galore
by Warren Chia
With the abundance of teenage programming, there's sometimes too much TV to watch everyday. Hopefully, this article will inform you on the more preferred shows of teenagers today, to shorten the time wasted by flipping through channels to find out what's on. We will examine shows on the basic channels that air at primetime from Monday through Friday (all times given are in Eastern time).
Monday:
With the exhaustion of having to start yet another week of school, some television tonight may be a good idea to give us some escape from this harsh reality. The new animated Dilbert (UPN at 8) and Alley McBeal (FOX at 9) are sympathetic to us by preparing us for our days of work ahead. These two shows center around a working environment, and makes us laugh, to prepare us optimistically for the coming week. Tonight also airs two shows for those who like sexual appeal on a TV show. Melorose Place (FOX at 8) has been airing for a few years, but its attractiveness through its scandals, sexual appeal, and soap opera type format still brings in the viewers. The new Hyperion Bay (WB at 9) also introduces a spicy environment, by showing sexy stars, such as Carmen Electra, AKA Mrs. Rodman. On the opposite end of the spectrum, 7th Heaven (WB at 8) has a more moral atmosphere. 7th Heaven is a show about a family, in which the father is a preacher, so it teaches some religious, but mostly moral values. This is a good family show that teaches simple morals which are often presented with a sprinkle of humor.
Tuesday:
If you were allowed to watch one television show before you died, your best bet would be Buffy. Trust me. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (WB at 8) is a show for everyone. For the guys, what can beat Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) beating the hell out of vampires and other cool-looking monsters? For the girls, David Borneaz is a hotty and what soap opera can top the love triangles in this show? Buffy and Angel. Xander and Cordelia. Xander and Faith. Xander and Willow. Willow and Oz. Cordelia and the Watcher? I'm telling you, it's a great show. Those who like Felicity, can stay for that extra hour and watch that, too. Also, for some funnies, you can tune into FOX from 8-9 for King of the Hill and the new PJ's. And as for Moesha (UPN at 8), have you ever seen a show so bad, it made you cry?
Wednesday:
ABC has got to have the funniest 2-hr lineup on TV tonight. Starting at 8, Dharma & Greg, 2 Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place, the Drew Carey Show, and Who's Line is it Anyway?. For major laughs, tune in. I personally prefer the latter half, though. For those of you who have been tuning in for the past 10 years, yes, Beverly Hills 90210 (FOX at 8) is still on the air. I don't even know what goes on anymore; I stopped watching after my 11th birthday. It just became too scandalous for my young self to handle. A show that was once about an innocent group of high school friends, has become a pitifully scandalous, sexy, and immoral drama. Personally, I think it was Valerie's fault. Two other good dramas on tonight are Dawson's Creek (WB at 8) and Party of Five (FOX at 9). With the new found fame of the young stars in Dawson's Creek, it's no wonder many people are tuning in. Party of Five (my 2nd favorite show) is still a wonderfully touching story about the five Salinger kids who struggle through life's hardships, without the wisdom and guidance of their parents, who had died in a car accident.
Thursday:
Not to be taken as racist, but WB has an African American starred lineup tonight from 8-10. The Wayans Brothers, the Jamie Foxx Show, the Steve Harvey show, and For Your Love, are all very humorous. Also, for a shock or two, tune in to FOX at 8 for World's Wildest Police Videos. This, and other FOX originals, is captivating as well as breathtaking. Two classics are airing tonight on NBC. Friends (at 8) has always been a favorite of mine (now falling to a 3rd place spot) and others. ER (at 10) is losing fame, but is still a great show. I'm not too sure, though, now that George Clooney left. Why don't you tune in and tell us how it is?
Friday:
Hm... Nothing's on TV tonight, so go out and watch a movie, go on a date, go to the mall, go to a party, go to church, or go to sleep, because nothing worth watching is on TV tonight. TGIF is something you shouldn't waste your time on, but if you need to watch X-File reruns, check it out on Fox (at 8).
