Freshman Year in Perspective
-by Welton Chang

Walking into high school one day last September, it seemed so large. A new school, new people, and a new adventure just waiting to appear around the corner. And what happens on the first day? We get lost because some senior thinks it's funny to send a freshman to the electricity room instead of English.

We find out that our math teacher is a bitch and you can't do anything about it.  And we meet some pretty hot girls... well… a few. But all in all freshmen year is not that bad. It's there for a reason: To get you ready for the rest of high school and the college years to come.

A change in environment is just one of the small changes that happen when the change from middle to high school comes along. High school seems so much bigger and the people in it seem so old. When you were in middle school you were the oldest and now you are just freshmen… worthless garbage treated last in every respect. Getting used to the stair climbing, new bathroom locations, new schedules, new opportunities, and new routines. One thing that took a while to get used to was the bus schedule, which meant having to wake up at around 6:30 to squeeze a shower in. Another thing that took some getting used to was after-school track, football, and other team practices. Many times these things took forever and the coach was not someone you wanted to get near.

New friends is another thing that freshmen year provides. Making new friends in the upper class and other classes is enlightening and not to mention the benefits of having people drive you around. High school also opens up new relationships with teachers, administrative staff, security guards, and last but not least, GIRLS. Probably the only reason some people go to school is to get some with people in school and other places. Not the best motivation, but it definitely keeps people in school.

In conclusion freshman year is one of great influence upon one's life. Freshman year is something that will show how you will do in your future, and it will shape what you become in the rest of your life.
